Transport
Individuals or families that you are sponsoring or supporting will need to access a wide range of services including – food shops, school / pre- school, healthcare, English lessons, work, benefits, social network and support services.
If you are sponsoring or supporting a family with school or pre-school age children it will be essential that they can access this on foot or be able to access the transport provided by Devon County Council to the school in your catchment area.
If you are able to, you or your support group, may wish to offer assistance with lifts but you will need to consider how sustainable anything that you offer might be. It is also important for people to feel that they have options and able to be independent.
Some people might have a driving license and new guidance has been published that Ukrainian guests can drive for a up to three years, in the UK on an international driving license without taking a driving test. Most people will, however, rely on public transport and it is worth considering the bus routes and timetables to the key services they will need. It is also worth considering the potential cost and affordability of transport as most will initially be dependent on benefits on a very tight budget. In some areas of Northern Devon bicycles might of course be a great option.
TravelDevon: Devon Access Wallet
The Devon Access Wallet scheme is an initiative to help make journeys by bus or train easier for anyone with communication difficulties, people with disabilities, deaf people and those whose first language is not English.
Vehicle Registration for Ukrainian plated vehicles in the UK
Registering a foreign plated vehicle is separate to the process of applying for an extension under Temporary Admission. Applying via C110 for import duty relief does not exempt you from registering a vehicle with the DVLA after six months. You can only continue to use a vehicle with foreign number plates without registering it in the UK if all the following apply:
You are visiting and do not plan to live here;
The vehicle is registered and taxed in its home country;
You only use the vehicle for up to 6 months in total - this can be a single visit, or several shorter visits over 12 months.
